Our sequence of events for adoption is:

1. Interested applicant submits application

2. Application review by a review committee

3. Vet check

4. Application review by the foster family

5. Introductory phone call

6. Home visit

7. Meet and greet if each step above meets approval

8. The dog goes to their new home if the foster family approves after observing the meet and greet

 

Additional adoption process information:

• Please be sure to read the dog's profile carefully before sending in an application.  This will help you determine if you and the dog are a good match.

• Carefully review the online application to make sure you have included all of the requested information and phone numbers before sending.

• Submit a completed online application

 

Please note:

• You must be at least 21 years old to apply. 

• We can only accept applications from the following areas:  Maryland, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia (Jefferson, Morgan, and Berkeley Counties), and South Central Pennsylvania (Fulton, Franklin, Adams, and Cumberland Counties).

• You will hear from us within 4 days.

  • If you do not hear from us, please contact inquiries@hedgesvillehounds.com before resubmitting your application.  

• If your application is not a good match for the dog, we will send you an email explaining the reasons.  All decisions are final.

• If your application is a possible match, we will contact your vet for a reference.

  • Please be sure that you provide your vets' phone numbers.  We request several years' worth of vet information, not merely your most recent vet.  If you do not provide your vets' phone numbers, we cannot process your application. 

  • Please contact your vet and permit them to talk with us. Many vets will not provide information without your consent. 

  • First-time pet owners: When we contact you after receiving your application, we will ask that you provide 3 personal references instead of a vet check.  More information will be provided at that time. 

• If the vet references (or personal references) are approved, a home visit by one of our volunteers will be scheduled at a mutually agreed-upon time. 

• Once the home visit is completed and approved, we will arrange for you to meet the dog.

• The average time to complete the process from the receipt of the application to adoption is approximately 2 weeks.
